  Developping Three Majors Economic Zones by 2010

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has just signed three decisions on major orientations to develop the socioeconomy until 2010 and the vision of three key economic zones by 2020. Mr. Khai wants that the Northern Key Economic Zone will increase the gross domestic product (GDP) by 1.3 times against the country's average growth each year in 2006-2010 and by 1.25 times in 2011-2020; the Southern Key Economic Zone, up by 1.2 and 1.1 times; and the Central Key Economic Zone, up by 1.2 and 1.25 times, respectively.

Developing Three Major Economic Zones by 2010 Wednesday 01-09-2004 12:30 pm Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has just signed three decisions on major orientations to develop the socioeconomy until 2010 and the vision of three key economic zones by 2020. Mr. Khai wants that the Northern Key Economic Zone will increase the gross domestic product (GDP) by 1.3 times against the country's average growth each year in 2006-2010 and by 1.25 times in 2011-2020; the Southern Key Economic Zone, up by 1.2 and 1.1 times; and the Central Key Economic Zone, up by 1.2 and 1.25 times, respectively.


Mr. Khai also set prime targets for the zones including increasing per capita export value to US$1,200 by 2010 in the north, US$3,620 in the south and US$373 in the central region. The Northern Key Economic Zone will increase its contribution to the State Budget to 26 percent; the Southern Key Economic Zone, 38.7 percent; and the Central Key Economic Zone, 6 percent by 2010.


Mr. Khai also outlined crucial tasks and solutions for the zones. He said the north needed to develop high-tech industries and high-quality services such as software industry, information technology appliances, automation, and production of new material and steel. He also asked to establish a general economic area in the island district of Van Don, Quang Ninh province, study the construction of a new deep-water port in Hai Phong, subways and railways in the inner part of Ha Noi and link the Ha Noi - Hoa Lac railway.


The Prime Minister urged the Central Key Economic Zone to accelerate the pace of construction of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, Dung Quat Economic Zone and Chan May Economic and Trading Area and to plan the construction of the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone and Tay Nguyen (the Central Highlands).

 

- The Northern Key Economic Zone includes Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Ha Tay, Vinh Phuc and Bac Ninh.

- The Southern Key Economic Zone includes Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc and Long An.

- The Central Key Economic Zone includes Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh.
