Vietnam's biggest-ever freighter put into service

The Ho Chi Minh City-based Vietnam Sea Transport and Chartering Company (Vitranschart) is launching its 22,000-ton freighter, the biggest-ever in Vietnam, on Monday.

The 17.2 million USD Japanese-built ship will depart Ho Chi Minh City's Nha Rong wharf for Cuba, carrying 20,500 tons of rice.

The VTC Light is 160 meters long and 25 meters tall and the biggest ship owned by a Vietnamese shipping company. It is equipped with modern facilities and capable of traveling at a maximum speed of almost 17 nautical miles per hour.
