Three stations will be installed on the East Sea to warn of tsunamis threatening Vietnam’s coastline, said Nguyen Ngoc Thuy, Head of the Global Physics Institute
According to Thuy, the stations, worth US$20,000-30,000 each, can report tsunami warnings one hour before they reach the Vietnamese coast.
American experts will work with Vietnamese scientists from January 9-20 to define the sites for installing the stations.
In addition to the stations, the government recently assigned the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete formalities to join a tsunami warning system for the Pacific region.
