  International Cai Mep - Thi Vai port determine to complete in 2012

As for causes, the progress of the International Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port project implementation is behind schedule. The Government guided contractors as a result to overcome difficulties to complete the project in late 2012.

The development of international Cai Mep - Thi Vai port project is invested under the Decision No. 695 of the Prime Minister, was identified as a key project, to orient the construction and development of Cai Mep - Thi Vai deep-sea port system. The project is synchronously invested with functional categories, modern logistics, and large capacity. After completion, the port will be a port of international stature, meet freight by sea which is rapidly growing in the South, contribute to speed up the relocation progress of ports located in the inner Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, establish direct maritime routes from Vietnam to other countries in the world, reduce time and costs of goods transit.

The 3 most important packages of the project are Cai Mep Container Port, Thi Vai general goods port, bridges and roads connecting from National Highway 51 to the two ports.

For the project completed prior to December 2012, the Department of Transport has just asked contractors to quickly carry out the construction package of bridges and roads connecting National Highway 51 to Cai Mep port to facilitate the transport of goods out of the port, as well as allow the port’s package extended another 5 months to complete the project. For the capital, due to the source of reciprocal capital for the project has not timely allocated, the Ministry of Transport requested contractors to mobilize in maximum their equity capital.

Mr. Nguyen Tat Nham, Deputy Director of the Project Management 85, said the Project Management would take the initiative and focus all resources to complete the bid package in the soonest time, ensure the construction schedule as planned.

The completion and putting into operation in time of Cai Mep Container Port and Thi Vai General Goods Port are especially important significance, contributing to improve the cargo throughput of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and create favorable conditions for import-export trade in home and abroad, contribute significantly to the port development strategy in the coming years, promote economic development in key southern region in particular and the country in general.
