  Rice exports considering new mechanism

The Trade Ministry has just submitted to the Government a proposal for new rice export mechanisms. It is hoped that this will overcome unhealthy competition both at home and overseas and overseas and prevent foreign partners from forcing Vietnamese exporters to sell rice at lower prices.

Under the draft mechanism, the Vietnam Food Association will take responsibility for unifying member companies in exporting rice, expanding the market, bidding for overseas sales, and signing and honoring trade contracts.

The draft also asks provincial People's Committees to instruct farmers and enterprises in producing rice and signing and implementing rice trading contracts. Enterprises themselves will fix the price of paddy rice for export and find business. The State will no longer cover their losses.
