The city plans to finish 12 key projects before the end of the year, including those that are well behind schedule, according to the city's Department of Transport.
On top of the agenda is Thu Thiem Tunnel as part of the East-West Highway project. Contractors will complete a power system installation in the fourth quarter to open the highway to traffic.
The city will also complete construction of Phu Long and Rach Tra bridges, linking them with Binh Duong Province late this year.
Due to the never-ending completion of the Go Dua intersection project, Thu Duc District's government handed over the land to Urban Traffic Management Zone No. 2 last month. The project is expected to be completed at the end of this year, said Bui Xuan Cuong, deputy director of the transport department.
Meanwhile, HCMC Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Co. (CII) has received 7.8 out of 12.2 hectares for the project expanding provincial road 25B from Giong Ong To to My Thuy Bridge. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in the city.
The authorities of Tan Binh, Binh Thanh and Go Vap districts have almost completed site clearance for the Tan Son Nhat-Binh Loi-Outer Ring road project. The project is estimated to finish in 2014. The city is still hampered by a lack of capital for provincial road 10 upgrading work and Binh Trieu 2 Bridge projects.
