The total volume of goods transported via Vietnam’s two major ports in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang central city have already reached its target levels for this year, said port authorities Dec. 15.
By Dec. 10, imports and exports into and out of the Saigon Port Complex in HCMC hit 10.9 million tons. This year's total figures will surge past 11 million tons, equivalent to last year's total, said the Saigon Port administration.
Meanwhile, the Danang port has fulfilled this year's goal 20 days ahead of schedule with 2.3 million tons of freight transported through the port. The total is six per cent more than last year's volume, said authorities.
The volume total at the Danang port is considered significant for Vietnam's central region since the port's capacity had been limited due to inadequate facilities and extreme weather, said Nguyen Thu, Danang Port chief executive.
The port has set next year's volume at about eight to 10 per cent higher than this year’s level, said Mr. Thu.
