Some key decisions of the meeting

DATE AND VENUE OF THE 39TH APA WORKING COMMITTEE MEETING

Brunei Darussalam graciously agreed to host the 39th APA Working Committee Meeting either in late August or early September 2018. The date and venue will be informed later.

DATE AND VENUE OF THE 44th APA MEETING

Singapore graciously agreed to host the 44th APA Meeting in mid or late November 2018. The date and venue will be informed later.

APA EXECUTIVE OFFICERS FOR 2018-2019

Malaysia accepted the chairmanship of the APA for 2018-2019. The Chairman and Secretary General will be Mr. Muhammad Razif Bin Ahmad and  Mrs. Mimi Mazira Mohd Idris, respectively.

 

Cambodia, on the other hand, accepted the Vice Chairmanship for the period 2018-2019. The name of the Vice Chairman and the APA Working Committee Chairman and the Honorary Auditor will be submitted by end of November 2017.

APA 5-YEAR WORK PROGRAMME

Human Resource Development

Indonesia informed the Meeting that the next HRD Seminar entitled “Human Resource Development in the Port Industry” will be held on 12-14 Dec 2017 in Ancol, North of Jakarta. Indonesia will issue the letter of invitation to the Permanent Secretariat for dissemination on 20 November 2017.

Electronic Transmission of Information

ASEAN ports are in various stages of transmitting information electronically.

Exchange of Information on Port Development Projects

The Meeting noted that the next seminar on Exchange of Information on Port Development Projects will be held in Myanmar by the end of 2018.

Base of the APA Permanent Secretariat

The Meeting agreed that the Philippines will continue to function as APA Permanent Secretariat. The Head of the Permanent Secretariat will be Josephine Napiere effective  1 September 2018.

 

Proposal for APA to join IAPH as Associate Member

The Meeting agreed that APA join IAPH as Associate Member in 2018.

Numbering of Documents

The Meeting agreed that subsequent APA documents will be numbered. The Permanent Secretariat will use the IMO numbering scheme as a guide.

CONSIDERATION AND ADOPTION OF THE REPORT

The Meeting adopted the report of the 43rd APA Meeting.

The Meeting noted that this may be the last meeting for Ms. Elizabeth C. Follosco, the Head of the APA Permanent Secretariat, who is retiring on September 2018 after a long and illustrious service to APA. The meeting wish her all the best in her retirement and that she continue to have a long and healthy life.

The Meeting also expressed its appreciation for the excellent service of Ms. Dothy and Mr. Sandhy Wijaya, APA Chairperson and Secretary General for the period from 2016 to 2017.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The delegations of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand expressed their most sincere appreciation to the Government of Vietnam and the Vietnam Seaports Association and all those involved for the very efficient organization of the meeting and the warm hospitality accorded to all members of the delegations.

The meeting was held in the traditional ASEAN spirit of solidarity and cordiality.
