Cai Mep International Terminal (CMIT) has excellently won the Silver Medal for outstanding performance in 2018 by CMA CGM for major ports in the Asian region.
French shipping company CMA CGM, one of the largest shipping lines in the world and a member of the Ocean Alliance, has published Terminal Performance Scorecard – 2018 assessing 2018 performance of 22 major ports and terminals in Asian region where its mainline vessels calling such as Yokohama (Janpan), Pusan (Korea), Kaohsiung (China),  Shanghai (China), Hong Kong, Manila (Philippines), Laem Chabang (Thailand), Singapore,…Small terminals and ports accommodating intra-Asia vessels and feeders are not in scope of this assessment.

Four assessment criteria relates to 1) berth productivity, 2) waiting time for pilot, 3) waiting time for berths and 4) time for vessels waiting at ports before and after cargo completion.
CMIT, striving continuously to maintain consistently high productivity of all vessels and provide high quality service, achieved the highest ratings of CMA CGM in most of the criteria. It is impressed when CMIT’s results of 3 criteria are equal to The champion Xiamen port’s, only criterion of Time for vessels waiting at ports before and after cargo completion gets low score. This criterion reflects how long a vessel must be wait for cargo operations after mooring and how long to depart after cargo completion. Waiting for suitable tidal condition to navigate is current challenge for mother vessels in and out Cai Mep area, so even the terminal tries to complete loading and unloading cargo early, the vessels still have to wait for the tide to unmooring and depart. If the channel is still not dredged deeper to -15.5m, improving the result of this criterion seems unlikely to succeed.
With a back-to-back schedule of 5 calls with vessels size 9,000TEU – 18,000TEU weekly deployed by the world’s largest shipping alliances and about 140 barges and domestic vessels, CMIT has been providing continuously outstanding services to be one of the largest deep-water ports in the country, contributing to position Cai Mep port complex on the world maritime map.
