CMIT welcomes the first vessel of the Gemini Cooperation, directly connecting Vietnam to the U.S. West Coast

This afternoon, Maersk Antares – the first vessel under the Gemini Cooperation operating on the TP6/WC1 service – departed CMIT after the safe and efficient handling of nearly 11,000 TEUs of laden and empty, achieving an impressive berth productivity of 172 containers per hour.

The Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd officially commenced on February 1, 2025, with the ambition to deliver a reliability of over 90% once fully phased in. This initiative places higher demands on port performance, requiring faster cargo handling to ensure vessels adhere to scheduled arrivals and departures.

With 14 years of operational expertise, CMIT’s consistent record of high productivity and stringent safety standards has been instrumental in earning the trust of Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, designating CMIT as the “home port” for Gemini in Southern Vietnam. As part of its service network, Gemini operates two mainline services and one shuttle service at CMIT each week.

Supported by shareholders APM Terminals, VIMC, and Saigon Port, CMIT recently invested in and commissioned the 7th quay crane to enhance operational capacity, improve handling efficiency, and better meet the growing demands of customers.

Currently, CMIT accommodates 8 weekly services connecting Vietnam to key global markets, including the U.S., West Europe–Mediterranean, Middle East, and Intra-Asia. With the support of Gemini and the world’s leading shipping lines, CMIT remains committed to contributing to the development of the Cai Mep deep-water gateway port and supporting the rapidly growing import-export market in Southern Vietnam.
